NUANCES E TRASPARENZE NELLE OPERE DI BIKKEL ARTIST

Bikkel Artist è un artista e designer, conosciuta per le sue sculture con il vetro, ma anche per la pittura. Le sue creazioni sono ricche di colori e sfumature che ricordano le nuances naturali della sua isola caraibica di origine: Curaçao.   

Perché hai scelto il nome d’arte Bikkel e cosa significa per te?

Il nome  Bikkel viene dal gioco delle abilità "Jacks" (la traduzione in olandese è "Bikkelen". Ho giocato molto a Curacao, dove sono nata. Il mio logo si basa su un Jack appiattito.

Sei un artista prolifica sia nel campo pittorico che nel design e lavorazione del vetro. L’ Arte per te è rappresentazione o reinterpretazione?

La mia arte è una rappresentazione delle emozioni che toccano/muovono il mio cuore in quel momento.

Sei in mostra con l’opera “ Curaçao Woman”. C'è un ricordo, un evento, un'immagine, un pensiero a cui sei particolarmente affezionata perché condensa, sublima, illumina la tua vita interiore e la tua poetica?

Curaçao Woman è composta da diversi strati. Il fondo - il primo strato -  è la vernice spray in bronzo su una rete da pesca che ho trovato sulla spiaggia. Questo strato racconta della mia nostalgia per il mio paese nativo. Il secondo strato è con vari colori di vernice acrilica e molta acqua. Questo livello consente di fare scoperte nel terzo livello per consentire allo spettatore di fare il proprio viaggio di scoperta. 

Hai creato un Museo con le tue opere. E’ questo un luogo di raccolta e visibilità delle tue opere solamente o pensi in futuro di farlo diventare un luogo dinamico e aperto ad esposizioni e confronti con altri artisti? 

Il Bikkel Museum di Maassluis nei Paesi Bassi, è un luogo dove vengono esposte una vasta collezione di mie opere, dai dipinti alle opere in vetro. C'è anche uno spazio/atelier dove creo le opere. Occasionalmente creo eventi di confronto con altri artisti.  Visitatori e gruppi sono i benvenuti su appuntamento per conoscermi e ascoltare le storie dietro il mio lavoro.

Cosa consiglieresti ad un giovane artista che inizia ad affascinarsi alla lavorazione del vetro? 

Penso che la cosa più eccitante per un artista alle prime armi sia quello di fare uno stage/workshop sul vetro durante o dopo aver frequentato un'Accademia d'arte. La professione richiede molta disciplina, un alto grado di perseveranza e la capacità di lavorare bene. Ci sono accademie d'arte in cui c'è un seminario di vetro.

BIKKEL ARTIST è il nome d’arte di P.JW De Haan-Kleute, una artista nata a Curaçao, isola caraibica olandese e vive ed opera nei Paesi Bassi. Utilizza principalmente la pittura e la scultura del vetro. Bikkel, è laureata dalla Willem de Kooning Academy di Rotterdam e le sue opere sono presenti in prestigiose collezioni pubbliche tra cui The Curaçao Museum, il Maassluis Museum e il Caldic Collection Museum. Nel 2023 una sua opera è stata pubblicata nel Guggenheim Contemporary Art Magazine of World of Art.  Nei prossimi mesi, sarà protagonista in una mostra alla Niğde Art Gallery In Cappadocia, Turchia e al Chang Kil-Hwan Art Museum in South-Korea. Le sue opere sono esposte nella mostra"The diary of a dreamer: Longitudini, Latitudini ed eredità delle donne" a cura di Dores Sacquegna, presso la Fondazione Palmieri a Lecce dal 24 Febbraio all'8 Marzo 2024.

NUANCES AND TRANSPARENCIES IN THE WORKS BY BIKKEL ARTIST

Bikkel Artist is an artist and designer, known for her sculptures with glass, but also for painting. Her creations are rich in colors and shades reminiscent of the natural nuances of her home island in Curaçao.

Why did you choose the artist name Bikkel and what does it mean to you?

The artist name BIKKEL comes from the skill game “jacks” (the translation into Dutch is "bikkelen"). I played the game a lot on Curacao, where I was born. My logo is based on a (flattened) jack.

You are a prolific artist in both painting and glass design and working. Is Art for you representation or reinterpretation?

BIKKEL's art is a representation of the emotions that touch/move my heart at that moment.

You are on display with the work "Curaçao Woman." Is there a memory, an event, an image, a thought that you are particularly fond of because it condenses, sublimates, illuminates your inner life and poetics?

Curaçao Woman is composed of several layers. The bottom-the first layer-is bronze spray paint on a fishing net I found on the beach. This layer tells of my nostalgia for my native country. The second layer is with various colors of acrylic paint and lots of water. This layer allows for discoveries in the third layer for the viewer to make their own journey of discovery.

You have created a Museum with your works. Is this a place of collection and visibility of your works only or do you plan in the future to make it a dynamic place open to exhibitions and confrontations with other artists?

The Bikkel Museum in Maassluis, the Netherlands, is a place where a large collection of my works are displayed, from paintings to glass works. There is also a space/atelier where I create the works. I also occasionally invite other artists to show their work in conjunction with my work. Visitors and groups are welcome by appointment to come by and meet BIKKEL and hear the stories behind my work.

What would you recommend to a young artist beginning to become fascinated with glassmaking?

I think the most exciting thing for a novice glass artist is to do an internship in glass workshop during or after attending an Art Academy. The profession requires a lot of discipline, a high degree of perseverance and the ability to work wih other glassblowers and clients. There are art academies where there is a glass workshop.

BIKKEL ARTIST is the art name of P.JW De Haan-Kleute, an artist born in Curaçao, a Dutch Caribbean isle and she lives and works in the Netherlands. She primarily uses painting and glass sculpture. Bikkel graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, and her works can be found in public collections, including the Curaçao Museum, the Maassluis Museum, and the Caldic Collection Museum. In 2023, one of her works was featured in World of Art's Guggenheim Contemporary Art Magazine. In the coming months she will be featured in an exhibition at the Niğde Art Gallery in Cappadocia, Turkey, and to the Chang Kil-Hwan Art Museum in South Korea. Her works are on display in the exhibition"The diary of a dreamer: Longitudes, Latitudes and Women's legacy," curated by Dores Sacquegna, at the Palmieri Foundation in Lecce from Feb. 24 to March 8, 2024.
