SIMBIOSI TRA NATURA E FIBER ART NELLE OPERE DI DENA HADEN

Dena Haden è conosciuta per le sue sculture tridimensionali di  Fiber art . Creazioni spesso ricche di straordinari motivi floreali ed eccezionali sfumature di colore.  L’artista sa cogliere la forza estetica, sociale e intima della tessitura e il legame profondo delle fibre con la natura.

Mountain Mother e Limbus, hanno un alto livello di sperimentazione, sono complessi e concettuali. Qual è l’aspetto più piacevole e quale quello più difficoltoso nella realizzazione delle tue opere?

Le sculture hanno un profondo legame personale, esplorano le complessità della femminilità, della maternità e del delicato equilibrio tra il trattenere e il rilasciare la vita.  La parte più divertente del mio lavoro è incarnare esperienze emotive e psicologiche in sculture fisiche.  Esplorare la femminilità: cosa significa essere una donna (come la madre terra), comprendere gli istinti materni e la creazione. I miei materiali riflettono la vulnerabilità della vita, sia trattenuta che rilasciata. Attraverso la trasformazione di questi materiali, sfido i loro limiti spingendoli ad esprimere la mia visione, il che può essere difficile. 

Se tu fossi all’interno dell’opera “Limbus” come vedresti il mondo intorno a te?

Se potessi essere all'interno di "Limbus Sea" vedrei il mondo intorno a me come protetto e sicuro. È stato creato per essere un contenitore strettamente intrecciato per sentirsi sicuri, fatto di erbe e piante naturali.  Protetto, ma anche separato dall'origine, con una struttura propria. Il termine Limbus significa, un confine che si distingue per colore o struttura. E "Limbus Sea", riflette un'isola che galleggia lungo il mare.

A cosa ti sei ispirata per fare i due acquerelli in mostra dal titolo "Arrive" e "Sky’s reach"?

Questi due acquerelli sono stati ispirati da spazi eterei multidimensionali in cui la forma umana, come la mano, agisce come un conduttore che collega alla preghiera, allo spirito e alla meditazione. Raggiungere altri regni dove l'esistenza diventa una cosa sola, un tessuto di tempo, spazio e amore.

Un artista del passato e uno del presente con cui ti senti più vicina concettualmente?

Due artiste del passato a cui mi sento più vicina sono Eva Hesse e Agnes Martin mentre del presente è sicuramente Cecilia Vicuna.

Dena Haden è una fiber artista americana del Massachusetts che opera con pittura ma anche installazioni ambientali. È laureata dall’Accademia di Belle Arti di Philadelphia e ha all'attivo numerose mostre personali e collettive in Europa, Asia, Usa, Giappone e Oriente. Tra le residenze artistiche recenti  si segnalano: Baroque Blue 2023 con Primo Piano e  Maria Mitchell a Nantucket, MA, tra le mostre, l'ultima alla XIV Biennale di Firenze.

SYMBIOSIS BETWEEN NATURE AND FIBER ART IN THE WORKS BY DENA HADEN

Dena Haden is known for her three-dimensional fiber art sculptures. Creations often rich in extraordinary floral patterns and exceptional shades of colour.  The artist knows how to capture the aesthetic, social and intimate power of weaving and the fiber's deep connection to nature.

Mountain Mother and Limbus, have a high level of experimentation, are complex and conceptual. What is the most enjoyable and what is the most difficult aspect of making your works?

The sculptures hold a deep personal connection, exploring the complexities of femininity, motherhood, and the delicate balance of holding and releasing life.  The most enjoyable part of my work is embodying emotional and psychological experiences into physical sculptures.  Exploring femininity: what it means to be a woman (such as mother earth), encompassing maternal instincts and creation. My materials reflect the vulnerability of life, both held and released. Through the transformation of these materials, I challenge their limitations pushing them to express my vision which can be difficult.

If you were inside the work "Limbus," how would you see the world around you?

If you were inside of “Limbus Sea” you would see the world around you as protected and safe. It was created to be a tightly woven vessel to feel secure made of natural grasses and plants.  Protected but also broken off from origin holding its own structure. The term Limbus means a border distinguished by color or structure. And “Limbus Sea” was meant to reflect an island of some sort, part of earths creation, singular, floating along the sea.

What inspired you to do the two watercolours on display and entitled Arrive and Sky's reach?

These two watercolors were inspired by multidimensional ethereal spaces where human form such as the hand acts as a conductor connecting to prayer, spirit, and meditation. Reaching other realms where existence becomes one, a fabric of time, space, and love.

Is there an artist from the past and one from the present with whom you feel closest conceptually and artistically?

Yes, an artist from the past I feel closest too are Eva Hesse and Agnes Martin and of the present I aspire to and feel closest to is Cecilia Vicuna.

Dena Haden is an American fiber artist from Massachusetts who works with painting but also environmental installations. She is a graduate of the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts and has numerous solo and group exhibitions in Europe, Asia, the USA, Japan and more. Recent art residencies include Baroque Blue  2023 with Primo Piano and at Maria Mitchell in Nantucket, MA and last exhibition is at  the 14th Florence Biennale in Italy.
